An Innocent Gaze

Petals of rose gently crushed

A hint of sandal, a bit of musk

Smoky charcoal lines her eyes

Every bit exotic as Indian spice.

Delicate ornaments of gold and silver

Ornate designs he cannot decipher,

Jasmine strands adorn her plaits

And silken robes sway with grace.

He sat there, watching her agape

She walks past him, to his dismay

He reaches for her, she goes weak in the knees

She embraces her son and the tears cease.
